Someone
recently told me they didn’t attend church because of hypocrites. I’ve heard
people say it before, plenty of times as a matter of fact. Yet my response was
along the lines of my realization of that I too have been a hypocrite and full
of flaws is my exact reasoning for acknowledging my need for God and that’s
part of why I attend church with others who have come to the realization as
well. It feels good knowing that there is a place to go at least once a week
where I am with others who love and worship the same person (Jesus
Christ)/creator (God the Father) as me. When we go out into the world, on our
own, to live our daily lives, it can feel lonely at times. Mainly if you’re in
an environment or perceive yourself to be in an environment as the only
believer of Jesus Christ. Whether that is in fact the case or not isn’t as
important as the realization that “I am not alone.” I can freely, by the grace
of God alone, go somewhere physically and gather with other likeminded
individuals. Individuals who love Jesus Christ the same as or more than me!
Sure, there are those who are in the church with impure motives, that’s
everywhere in life, but there are still those who are there with pure motives.
Will you not go grocery shopping someplace and choose what’s healthy because of all of those who are at the store to make unhealthy choices? No! You’ll go in there mind your affairs, maybe even communicate with those who are choosing the healthier options too, we may even try to convince those making the lesser choices because they shouldn’t and some of you may sit there silently judging those of us who pick up the less healthy options. My point in that metaphor was there is not gathering because of the “hypocrites” hasn’t stopped you before anywhere else but when it comes to the things of God.
Ultimately my desire is to live a life where people: who strayed want to come back to God, who grew up Christian want a personal relationship with God the creator of all, and inspire them to ask, "what must I do to be saved?" (and after he brought them out [of the inner prison], he said, “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?”- Acts 16:30)
